Bill Summary

Relative to advanced placement examinations and college credit

AI Summary

This bill requires all public institutions of higher education in Massachusetts to develop and adopt written policies and procedures to award college credit for scores of 3, 4, or 5 on Advanced Placement (AP) exams. The policies must specify whether the credit will satisfy general education, major, or elective requirements, and include procedures for transferring the credits to other institutions. Institutions can only require a score higher than 3 if the chief academic officer provides evidence that a higher score is necessary for the student to succeed in a more advanced course. The Department of Higher Education must review the policies annually and report its findings and any recommendations to the legislature. The bill also requires institutions to post their policies online and submit them to the Department, which will publish a summary on its website.
