This bill, the "Local Government Sanctuary Policy Prohibition Act", prohibits local units of government (e.g., counties, cities, townships) from enacting or enforcing any law, ordinance, policy, or rule that limits or prohibits their peace officers or officials from communicating or cooperating with federal officials regarding the immigration status of individuals. It requires local governments to bring any existing non-compliant policies into compliance within 60 days. The bill also allows residents to bring lawsuits to enforce the act, and empowers the state Attorney General to investigate violations and file enforcement actions, with the potential for courts to issue injunctions, order policy changes, and impose civil fines on officials who knowingly and willfully violate the act.
