For packages containing only Hawaii-grown and Hawaii-processed nuts, labels can use terms like "100% Hawaii-Grown Macadamia Nuts" or "Hawaii-Grown Macadamia Nuts" on the principal display panel. If the product contains nuts grown or processed outside of Hawaii, the label must include a statement disclosing this fact. The bill also mandates that sellers must have documented proof of the origin of their macadamia nuts if challenged, and establishes violations for misrepresenting the nuts' origin, such as claiming all nuts are from Hawaii when they are not. These new labeling requirements will take effect on January 2, 2026, providing businesses time to update their packaging and compliance practices.
