This bill creates a new category of vehicle registration for former military vehicles in Hawaii, specifically defining four types of military vehicles (Pinzgauer, Kaiser Jeep M715, Humvee, and DUKW/Duck) that must be at least 25 years old to qualify as a "special interest vehicle". Owners of these vehicles can apply for registration with their county's director of finance and use the vehicles for certain limited purposes, such as transporting the owner's property in connection with their primary business or transporting passengers without charge directly to and from their business. However, these vehicles are prohibited from being used for commercial transportation of people or property for hire and cannot carry more than 500 pounds of material (excluding specific exceptions like mounted campers, trailers, or passengers).
