This bill directs the Department of Education, in partnership with the Maine Education Association, the Maine School Management Association, and Educate Maine, to conduct a comprehensive review of teacher mentoring programs in Maine's public schools. The review will examine the number of teachers with emergency, conditional, or new teacher certificates who have less than three years of experience, ensure these teachers are assigned mentors, gather input from public school principals on existing programs, and document the basic requirements, structure, training, and available stipends for these programs across the state. Following this review, the Department of Education is required to submit a report to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs by February 15, 2026, and the committee may then propose legislation based on its findings, with $5,000 allocated for contract staffing services to assist with this review and report.
