This bill establishes new motor vehicle registration fee reductions for veterans in Vermont. Specifically, the bill provides that veterans who have received a discharge under other than dishonorable conditions and are Vermont residents can receive a 50 percent reduction on registration fees for various types of vehicles, including pleasure cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and all-terrain vehicles, when they submit a DD Form 214 (a military discharge document) with their registration. Additionally, veterans can receive one 100 percent registration fee reduction per calendar year, provided they are not already receiving a full exemption for a vehicle acquired through VA financial assistance. The bill also ensures that the reduced registration fees will be offset by transferring the foregone revenue from the Sports Wagering Enterprise Fund to the Transportation Fund. The provisions of this bill will take effect on January 1, 2026, and aim to provide financial relief and recognition to veterans by reducing their vehicle registration costs.
