This bill amends the education law to modify the composition of community college boards of trustees by expanding the board from ten to eleven members and adding a new faculty or staff representative. Specifically, the bill requires that one of the eleven board members be elected by and from among the faculty and staff of the college, serving a two-year term on an ex-officio and non-voting basis. This new board member will begin their first term on July 1, 2026, and will have similar parliamentary privileges as student board members, including the ability to make and second motions and place items on the agenda. The faculty or staff member must also follow the same ethical and professional guidelines as other board members and will be required to resign if they are no longer employed by the institution. The election of this faculty or staff representative will be conducted according to rules established by the largest faculty organization on each campus. This change aims to increase institutional representation and provide faculty and staff with a voice in college governance.
