Bill Summary

Under current law, no person may engage in the practice of radiography unless the person is granted a license by the Radiography Examining Board. XPractice of radiographyY is defined to mean the imaging of anatomical structures, produced by the combined application of X-rays to the human body and the application of knowledge in the fields of anatomy, radiographic positioning, and radiographic technique, and knowledge of principles of radiation protection, for the purpose of medical diagnosis. Current law provides several exceptions from the requirement that a person be licensed by the Radiography Examining Board in order to engage in the practice of radiography, including for physicians, chiropractors, dentists, and physician assistants. This bill adds certified advanced practice nurse prescribers to the list of persons who are not required to obtain a license from the Radiography Examining Board to engage in the practice of radiography.

AI Summary

This bill adds certified advanced practice nurse prescribers (APNPs) to the list of healthcare professionals who are exempt from obtaining a license from the Radiography Examining Board in order to perform radiographic imaging. In the context of medical practice, radiography involves creating medical images using X-rays to visualize internal body structures for diagnostic purposes. Currently, certain healthcare professionals like physicians, chiropractors, dentists, and physician assistants are already permitted to perform radiographic procedures without a specific radiography license. The bill specifically amends the existing statute by creating a new provision that explicitly includes advanced practice nurse prescribers who are certified under section 441.16 (2) as another category of professionals who can engage in radiographic imaging without obtaining a separate radiography license. This change expands the scope of practice for certified advanced practice nurse prescribers, allowing them to perform X-ray and diagnostic imaging procedures as part of their professional responsibilities.
