This bill establishes a statewide Parkinson's disease registry and mandates reporting from healthcare providers to improve care and research for the disease. Beginning January 1, 2027, physicians (licensed under chapter 458 or 459) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs, licensed under chapter 464) who diagnose or treat Parkinson's disease will be required to report specific information, including nationally recognized performance measures, to this registry. The bill also provides that these healthcare providers will not be held liable for any damages resulting from providing this information. The Florida Institute for Parkinson's Disease at the University of South Florida will be responsible for establishing and maintaining this registry, subject to specific funding. Additionally, the bill revises the membership of the Parkinson's Disease Research Board, adding legislative appointees and requiring board members to have specific expertise in movement disorders and health informatics or research. The board's annual reports will now need to include more detailed information about Parkinson's disease incidence and prevalence in the state, starting October 15, 2028. Furthermore, starting January 1, 2028, a public website dedicated to the registry will be created and maintained by the Institute, which will be updated annually and will include downloadable reports on Parkinson's disease statistics and other relevant information. This act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
