This bill allows disabled veterans who qualify for tax and fee exemptions on one motor vehicle registration to choose a different license plate in lieu of the standard "D.V." (disabled veteran) or disabled woman veteran plates, provided they meet the qualifications for the new plate and pay any additional fees associated with it, unless it's a military license plate. The bill clarifies that the exemption from registration taxes and fees for disabled veterans applies to individuals who have incurred a service-connected disability of 50% or more, or have lost the use of limbs or vision, and are receiving compensation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the armed forces. This exemption does not apply to commercial vehicles, implements of husbandry (like farm machinery), or certain farm trucks and truck tractors taxed at a reduced rate.
