This bill expands requirements for various health insurance carriers and plans in New Jersey to cover annual prostate cancer screenings, ensuring these screenings are provided according to the latest "nationally recognized clinical practice guidelines," which are defined as evidence-based recommendations from independent medical organizations. Crucially, these screenings must be covered without any out-of-pocket costs to the patient, meaning no deductibles, coinsurance, or copayments will be applied. This applies to contracts from health service corporations, hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, group health insurance policies, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), individual health insurance policies, individual health benefits plans, small employer health benefits plans, and contracts purchased by the State Health Benefits Commission and the School Employees' Health Benefits Commission. The bill also clarifies that these provisions apply to high-deductible health plans and catastrophic plans to the maximum extent permitted by federal law, with specific exceptions for plans used to establish medical savings accounts (MSAs) or health savings accounts (HSAs).
