This bill mandates that Local Education Agencies (LEAs), which are public school districts, and public charter schools in Tennessee must observe November 7th each year as "Victims of Communism Day" to commemorate those who have suffered under communist governments. Furthermore, high school students enrolled in a world history and geography course will receive at least 45 minutes of instruction on this day about the hardships faced by victims of communist regimes, including poverty, starvation, forced migration, violence, and suppression of free speech, with specific examples like Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution, Joseph Stalin's Soviet System, Fidel Castro's Cuban Revolution, Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge, and Nicolas Maduro's Chavismo movement. If November 7th falls on a weekend or a day when these students do not have class, the instruction will be provided on the next school day they attend. This requirement will take effect for the 2026-2027 school year and all subsequent years.
