This resolution requests the Board of Education and Department of Education in Hawaii to establish a working group to create a framework for a "Climate Literacy Seal of Excellence" in public schools. This initiative aims to recognize students who complete advanced coursework and hands-on projects related to climate science, sustainability, and community resilience, acknowledging the significant challenges posed by climate change and the importance of preparing students to understand its implications. The working group will be composed of eleven members, including educational leaders, teachers, university faculty, and students, and will develop recommendations for course sequences, experiential learning, criteria for the seal, educator training, alignment with existing educational programs, and an implementation plan. The Department of Education is then tasked with reporting the working group's findings and recommendations to the Legislature by early 2027.
