This resolution requests the Hawaii Board of Education and Department of Education to create a working group to develop a framework for a "Climate Literacy Seal of Excellence" in public schools. This seal would recognize students who complete advanced coursework and hands-on projects related to climate science, sustainability, and community resilience, acknowledging the significant challenges climate change poses to Hawaii. The working group, composed of eleven members including educators, university faculty, students, and community representatives, will propose academic pathways, experiential learning requirements, criteria for the seal, professional development for teachers, and an implementation plan. The Department of Education is then tasked with submitting a report of these findings and recommendations to the Legislature by early 2027.
