This bill amends Florida Statute 395.003 to allow certain specialty-licensed children's hospitals to provide obstetrical services under specific conditions. Previously, specialty hospitals were restricted to the services and patient groups outlined in their licenses. Now, a children's hospital with licensed neonatal intensive care unit beds can offer labor and delivery care to up to ten patients. This care is limited to pregnant women of any age whose pregnancies are documented by a physician as high-risk due to a fetal characteristic or condition, or if there's medical advice indicating the fetus may require perinatal intervention, meaning specialized medical care before or during birth. This change aims to expand access to specialized care for high-risk pregnancies within these children's hospitals.
