This bill establishes "Massachusetts Geography Education week" during the first week of April, with the governor annually issuing a proclamation to mark this occasion. It also amends existing law to ensure that the council on global education includes directors from bay state centers for global education and a representative from the Massachusetts Geographic Alliance, an organization focused on geography education. Furthermore, the bill creates a commission on geography education, composed of eight members including education officials, representatives from the alternative energy and geo-technology industries, and academics and teachers with expertise in geography, to study and report on the status of geography education in the Commonwealth and recommend improvements, with a deadline for their report by December 31, 2015.
