This bill updates Chapter 268, Section 33 of existing law to expand the definition of public officials whose impersonation is a crime and to increase the penalties for such impersonation. Specifically, it adds agents, officers, or inspectors of the state department of public health or a local board of health to the list of protected public officials, alongside existing protections for officials of the department of revenue. Furthermore, the bill significantly increases the maximum fine for impersonating these public officials from four hundred dollars to four thousand dollars, while keeping the maximum imprisonment penalty at one year.
