This bill, concerning charter schools, proposes changes to the process of applying for the establishment of a commonwealth charter school. Specifically, it amends Section 89 of Chapter 71 of the General Laws to require that any application for a new charter school must be submitted not only to the board of education for approval but also filed with the local school committee of the district where the school would be located. Furthermore, the application must be submitted to the local legislative body and chief executive officer of that municipality for their approval; if these local officials do not approve the application, it will be considered denied.
