This bill establishes a special commission to investigate and study strategies for preventing child suicide and the resources needed to help elementary and secondary schools identify and support at-risk children. The commission will comprise eleven members, including legislators from the senate and house of representatives, the commissioners of elementary and secondary education and mental health (or their designees), and three members appointed by the governor: a superintendent nominated by the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, a member of the mental health advisory council, and an advocate for pediatric early childhood mental health. This commission is tasked with reporting its findings and legislative recommendations to the general court by December 31, 2014.
