This bill establishes a Sports Injury Commission to study and report on sports injuries among elementary, middle, and high school children, collecting data on injury types, frequency, severity, identifying high-risk sports, and their long-term effects, including specific injuries like those to the eyes, face, and head, as well as heart-related issues. The commission will then propose strategies and legislative recommendations to decrease these injuries, such as mandating protective eyewear and headgear in high-risk sports and considering mandatory heart testing. The commission's membership will include legislative chairs from the Joint Committees on Public Health and Education, public health and education commissioners, and representatives from various medical, athletic, and advocacy organizations, along with two high school students. Finally, the commission is required to submit its findings and proposed legislation to the state legislature by December 31, 2015.
