This bill, titled "Relative to firearm owners protection," proposes to add a new section to Chapter 140 of the Massachusetts General Laws that would allow individuals who are not residents of Massachusetts, and who are not otherwise prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms, to transport weapons through the Commonwealth for any lawful purpose, provided the weapon is unloaded and not readily accessible from the passenger compartment of the vehicle, or if the vehicle lacks a separate compartment, it must be in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. The bill also states that if a person is found to be in compliance with these provisions, their property shall not be detained or confiscated unless an arrestable offense unrelated to this section exists, and that individuals who are unexpectedly delayed during their travel, such as due to mechanical issues or weather, will retain the protections of this section.
