This bill amends Section 89 of Chapter 71 of the General Laws to strengthen the evaluation process for proposed new charter schools by requiring that the criteria used to evaluate these schools include a study on the potential impact the new charter school will have on students attending the local district public schools. Charter schools are independently operated public schools that are freed from some of the regulations that apply to traditional public schools, but they must meet accountability standards.
