This bill amends Chapter 146 of the General Laws by adding a new section, 88A, which exempts individuals regularly employed by a public water system from the standard sprinkler fitter's examining and licensing requirements. A "public water system" refers to an entity responsible for providing safe drinking water to the public. This exemption specifically applies to sprinkler fitting work performed on hydrants and their associated pipes and valves, including emergency installation, repair, testing, and maintenance, as long as this work is within the jurisdiction of the public water system. Importantly, this exemption does not extend to any other part of a fire protection sprinkler system. The bill also clarifies that this exemption applies to multi-purpose systems and grants the department the authority to create rules and regulations to enforce this new section.
