Bill Summary

Relative to retirement credit for out of state service. Public Service.

AI Summary

This bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to allow public employees who have worked in another state's retirement system to purchase creditable service in the Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System. To do so, the employee must waive or refund any retirement benefit they are entitled to receive from the other state and pay an amount equal to what would have been withheld as regular deductions from their compensation had they been a member of the Massachusetts system during the out-of-state service period. This provides a pathway for public employees to receive retirement credit in Massachusetts for prior out-of-state public service.
