This bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to establish the Massachusetts Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. The key provisions include: (1) prohibiting employers from discriminating against employees due to pregnancy or related conditions, including lactation or the need to express breast milk; (2) requiring employers to provide reasonable accommodations for employees' pregnancy-related conditions, unless doing so would impose an undue hardship; (3) requiring employers to provide written notice to employees about their rights under the law; and (4) directing the Executive Office of Health and Human Services to explore creating a "Family-Friendly" business designation for employers that implement policies supporting breastfeeding in the workplace. The bill takes effect on April 1, 2018.
