How Amendments Work in BillTrack50
BillTrack50 captures the text of proposed amendments if they are published on the state website. We search the text of the amendment for your keywords and for your meaning search. If a proposed amendment would make a bill interesting to you then we will add the bill to your bill sheet.
Once we get a new bill text we drop all old amendments from the search, and start searching new amendments as they are proposed. So if the amendment that made the bill interesting was not ultimately incorporated into the bill text, say when the bill crossed over or when it was sent to the governor, then the bill will drop off of your bill sheet.
If you see a bill on your bill sheet that doesn’t seem relevant to you then you can click through and see right away if there is an active proposed amendment:

If so there will be a link to the amendment on the state site on the documents tab:

If you get a new bill alert in your email that isn’t actually a new bill, you can tell if it showing up for you because of an amendment by looking to see if there is a checkmark on the documents column. If there is then there’s a good chance there was an amendment and that the amendment would make the bill relevant to you if it is adopted.
