Bill Summary

Under current law, the Department of Health Services allocates funds to local agencies to assist eligible families with obtaining goods and services related to the care of a person with Alzheimer[s disease or another irreversible dementia. Currently, a person is financially eligible for the program if the joint income of the person with irreversible dementia and that person[s spouse, if any, is $48,000 per year or less. This bill repeals the financial eligibility requirement. For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.

AI Summary

This bill aims to modify existing regulations concerning the Alzheimer's family and caregiver support program by eliminating the current income threshold for financial eligibility. Under the existing law, families were only eligible for support if the combined annual income of a person with Alzheimer's disease or another irreversible dementia and their spouse was $48,000 or less. By repealing this financial eligibility requirement, the bill would expand access to support services, potentially allowing more families to receive assistance through local agencies in obtaining goods and services related to dementia care. The proposed change suggests a more inclusive approach to supporting families dealing with Alzheimer's disease and other irreversible forms of dementia, removing the income-based barrier that previously limited program participation.
