This bill modifies existing Wisconsin state law regarding teacher preparatory programs by expanding the options for student teaching requirements. The bill now authorizes the state superintendent to also approve programs where students complete student teaching during a full summer session, providing more flexibility in how and when aspiring teachers can fulfill their student teaching requirements. This change allows teacher preparation programs to offer student teaching experiences during summer sessions in addition to traditional semester-long placements, potentially making it easier for students to complete their training and obtain teaching licenses. The modification applies to both in-state teacher preparatory programs and programs completed outside of Wisconsin, ensuring consistent standards for student teaching across different educational contexts. The state superintendent retains discretion to grant exceptions to these requirements when institutional calendars create scheduling challenges, and must establish rules to implement these new guidelines.
