Bill Summary
Under current law, the Department of Veterans Affairs coordinates the provision of military funeral honors to deceased members or former members of the military. If the provision of military funeral honors is conducted by a local unit of a member organization of the council on veterans programs or a local unit of a veterans organization certified by the department to provide military funeral honors, the department must reimburse the organization for its cost in providing military funeral honors in an amount of up to $50 per funeral. This bill increases the reimbursement amount to $100 per funeral. For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
AI Summary
This bill increases the amount the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reimburses local units of veterans organizations for providing military funeral honors to deceased service members or veterans. Currently, the VA reimburses these organizations up to $50 per funeral, but this bill raises that limit to $100 per funeral. The VA coordinates these honors, and local units of organizations that are part of the council on veterans programs or are certified by the VA can receive this reimbursement to cover their costs.
