Bill Summary

Under current law, vehicles entering state parks or Department of Natural Resources recreational sites are required to display an annual or daily admission receipt (commonly known as a “park sticker”). The fee for an annual park sticker for a vehicle with Wisconsin registration plates is $27.50, and the fee for an additional park sticker for the same individual or members of their household is $15. An additional issuing fee of 50 cents is collected for each park sticker. This bill requires the Department of Transportation to provide an applicant for original or renewal vehicle registration a way to indicate on the application that they wish to purchase an annual park sticker. For such applicants, DOT must collect the fees for the park sticker and deposit them quarterly in the conservation fund. On a weekly basis, DOT must provide DNR a list of applicants who purchased a park sticker and DNR must issue stickers to those applicants. For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill. LRB-6257/1 ZDW:ajk 2025 - 2026 Legislature SENATE BILL 1005

AI Summary

This bill allows individuals applying for or renewing their vehicle registration with the Department of Transportation (DOT) to also purchase an annual state park admission receipt, commonly known as a "park sticker," at the same time. Currently, these stickers are purchased separately from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Under this bill, the DOT will collect the park sticker fees, which are $27.50 for a standard annual sticker and $15 for an additional sticker for household members, plus a 50-cent issuing fee, and deposit these funds quarterly into the conservation fund, which supports state parks and recreational areas. The DOT will then provide the DNR with a weekly list of individuals who purchased a sticker, and the DNR will mail the stickers to them. This change aims to streamline the process of obtaining a park sticker by integrating it with vehicle registration.
