This bill proposes to amend Section 2 of Chapter 90 of the General Laws to allow the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to issue special license plates for firefighters. These distinctive plates, which will feature a design signifying their status, can be obtained by active firefighters in good standing within Massachusetts fire departments, or by the surviving spouse of a firefighter who died in the line of duty. To receive or renew such a plate, applicants must provide certification from their fire department chief. There will be an additional $10 fee for these special plates, on top of the regular registration fee, with these funds going to the Massachusetts Firefighters Academy Trust Fund.
