This bill amends Chapter 90 of the General Laws to introduce new safety regulations for "sight-seeing vehicles," which are defined as any motor vehicle or "amphibious vehicle" (a vehicle designed to operate on both land and water, like DUKWs or LARCs) used to carry people for a fee for tours or similar activities. Specifically, it mandates that any amphibious vehicle operating on public roads as a sight-seeing vehicle must be equipped with blind spot cameras and proximity sensors that meet standards set by the registrar, and it prohibits the operator of such a vehicle from simultaneously providing guide services, narration, or entertainment. Violations of these provisions will result in a fine of up to $500 for a first offense and up to $1,000 for subsequent offenses, with the new regulations taking effect on April 1, 2017.
