AI Summary
This bill addresses the creation, distribution, and reproduction of explicit digital representations without consent, specifically targeting "deep fakes" or what the bill terms "synthetic intimate representations." The legislation expands existing Wisconsin law to make it a Class I felony to post, publish, distribute, or exhibit a synthetic intimate representation of an identifiable person with the intent to coerce, harass, or intimidate that individual. A synthetic intimate representation is defined as a digitally generated representation using a person's face, likeness, or distinguishing characteristics to depict an intimate representation, regardless of whether the image includes artificial or legally generated components. Additionally, the bill makes it a Class A misdemeanor to reproduce a private representation (a sexually explicit image intended to be shared only with specific individuals) without the consent of the person depicted. By creating these new legal provisions, the bill aims to protect individuals from non-consensual intimate digital content and provide legal recourse against the malicious creation and sharing of such images.
