As part of the assessment, the department will conduct a survey of producers and processors to gather feedback and will review existing exemptions for poultry processors, particularly those processing a certain number of poultry annually. The department will also review its cooperative agreement with the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service and develop strategies to ensure uniform interpretation of federal regulations and exemptions. By January 15, 2026, the department is required to submit a report to the Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, detailing its strategies, findings, and recommendations, which may include proposed legislation for the 132nd Legislature's Second Regular Session.
