Furthermore, the bill mandates that individual and group accident and health insurance policies, health service contracts, hospital service plans, medical service agreements, and health maintenance contracts must provide benefits for acupuncture and oriental medicine for specific conditions including pain management, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse treatment, and nausea. It also clarifies that using needles on specific points for myofascial pain treatment is considered the practice of acupuncture and prohibits third-party payers from differentiating reimbursement rates for acupuncture services based on provider type, limiting reimbursement to licensed acupuncturists or medical doctors.
