This bill authorizes the town of Canton to issue five additional licenses for establishments that sell alcoholic beverages to be consumed on the premises, which can be for all types of alcohol or just wine and malt beverages. These new licenses will be subject to the same conditions as existing licenses under section 12 of chapter 138 of the General Laws, including fees for initial issuance and renewals. The bill also specifies that these licenses cannot be transferred to a different location, but a new applicant can receive a license for the same location if they demonstrate that the business is in good standing with the Department of Revenue and the Department of Unemployment Assistance, meaning all taxes, fees, and contributions are paid. If a license granted under this act is canceled, revoked, or no longer in use, it will be returned to the licensing authority, which can then issue it to a new applicant at the same location under the same terms. Furthermore, the bill allows the Canton licensing authority to cancel or revoke any alcoholic beverage license, whether issued under this act or previously, if it has not been actively used to serve the public for a continuous period of six months. This provision aims to ensure that licenses are being utilized and serving the community. The bill takes effect immediately upon its passage.
