Bill Summary

To extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project. (Sec. 1) This bill authorizes the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to extend by six years the time period during which Jordan Hydroelectric Limited Partnership is required to commence construction on the Gathright Hydroelectric Project located in Alleghany County, Virginia. In addition, FERC is authorized to reinstate the construction license if it is expired.

AI Summary

This bill allows the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of electricity, to grant extensions for the start of construction on hydroelectric projects. Specifically, it permits FERC to extend the construction deadline for the Jordan Hydroelectric Limited Partnership's Gathright Hydroelectric Project in Virginia by up to six years, in increments of two years, provided the project is still being pursued in good faith, with due diligence, and in the public interest, as outlined in Section 13 of the Federal Power Act. Furthermore, if the construction license for this project has already expired, FERC is authorized to reinstate it and apply the new extension period from the original expiration date.
